Paul and Martha met while Paul was at Luther Seminary, and Martha was a student at St. Olaf College. Martha’s sister-in-law was an accomplished matchmaker, and they were married in 1972. They have shared lots of adventures, including raising two children, welcoming two grandchildren, and moving 22 times. They are now at home in South Everett. Martha has a BA in Math and Art. Paul has Bas in Religious Thought and Psychology, an M Div, and an MA in Community Counseling and is a licensed therapist.
Paul has served three regular calls and interims in five congregations in the Eastern Washington-Idaho Synod, and ten congregations in the Northwest Washington Synod. His first interim was at Anacortes, in 1980. Martha is a childcare consultant in Early Achievers through the Opportunity Council of Bellingham. They enjoy gardening, golf, some fishing, singing, and lots of reading. With vacations finding them relaxing in the mountains or on the coast. Paul is officially retired, and Martha is a year from retiring, when Paul will likely retire some more.
